Jobs report good for most, for Blacks, not so much

The Department of Labor released the March jobs report indicating that the economy added 216,000 jobs last month and the national unemployment rate dropped to 8.8%, the lowest level in two years.

The addition of 230,000 private sector jobs equals  the 13th consecutive month of private sector job growth – and a drop in the national unemployment rate for the fourth straight month.

The news isn’t so cheery for blacks, however.

The *official* black unemployment rate is 15.5%, up from 15.3% in February. Black female unemployment fell to 12.5%, from 13.0%. Black male joblessness rose to 16.8%, from 16.2%. Black youth unemployment increased to 42.1%, from 38.4%.
