Bitcoins are all the rage and with the expected anxiety over the British pound and Euro following the UK‘s exit from the European Union, there is even more interest in crypto currency.

Of course the bitcoin isn’t the only digital form of currency, but it is a part of what is known as “cryptocurrency”. It is a rising field that underrepresented people in tech should hop on while it’s still new’ish. Currently, as of this post, 1 bitcoin is $686 US.

And a wonderful opportunity just opened up for rising college sophomore, junior and senior undergraduates who are from underrepresented groups in tech and women  to study cryptocurrency at MIT’s Media Lab this summer.

The MIT Digital Currency Initiative is running a Cryptocurrency Bootcamp August 21st – 26th in Massachusetts and is offering scholarships which include flight, hotel and other expenses during the boot camp.

Hurry! Applications are due July 11th. And entrants need to be available for a telephone interview between July 12 and July 19th and winners will learn if they were accepted by July 22nd.

Students should plan to arrive in Cambridge, MA on August 21 and depart on August 26.

The program will accept 25 students who will:

  • Gain hands-on technical experience
  • Engage in networking opportunities with influencers and leaders in the cryptocurrency/blockchain space
  • Be encouraged to start clubs on their campuses and develop events for their communities to engage and inform more students on topics important to the technology
  • Pursue research and internship opportunities on their home campuses

In addition, the students will engage in discussions on entrepreneurship, leadership, strategies for applying to graduate school, and approaches to effective communication.

Sounds like a great opp! To apply go HERE!

Good luck to you or that college kid in your family or social circle who may love this opportunity.
