Monetizing a blog or website when you are just starting out can be really tough. If you sign up for a program like Adsense that pays per click, that can add up but newbies with little traffic usually have a click rate at less than a penny per click.
Think $.20 per month income. No bueno!.
A more likely way to profit off a nascent site is through affiliate networks that pay a commission on sales. There are several networks out there. How they work is brands and products and service providers join the networks and then get access to connect to bloggers, website owners and influencers out there to help them drive sales. The influencers and content creators sign up to join the individual brand’s program and a match is made!
In some cases, the brands pay just for the lead or a sign up, even without an actual purchase being made by the referral traffic.
Meaning, the blogger gets paid when someone goes to a website, signs up for a trial or makes a call to a 1-800 number! Sweet! Cannot beat that!
To help those along just starting out, I assembled a list of programs through Shareasale, one of my fave affiliate network programs to use to monetize my online presence.
Recently, I earned $64 commission when one mom went on a back to school shopping trip after clicking a referral link on one of my blogs.
