As I type this know that there is a song called #Selfie (by The Chainsmokers) playing on the top 40 stations.
Time magazine analyzed the word as used to describe an upload in social media and came up with the top 100 cities with the most selfie-takers. It determined that Makati City and Pasig in the Philippines took the top honors with 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.
In the US, the New York city borough of Manhattan took the second place honors with 202 selfie-takers per 100,000. No surprise there with all the models and entertainers in Manhattan and not to mention the record number of tourists at any given time taking a selfie in the middle of Time Square. It makes sense that Manhattan would rank so high on the list
Of the top 100, Europe, the US, Asia and South America have the most while Canada has just two cities in the top and in the entire continent of Africa just cities in 5 nations, Kenya, Nigeria, Tunisia, South Africa and Morocco. Limited connectivity probably plays a role. The cost per minute charged by those choke-holding telecom companies make it cost prohibitive to upload a photo in may cities in Africa.
