One of my favorite websites For Harriet reminded me, via a Facebook feed scroll, that yesterday was the birthday of the late Sci-Fi writer Octavia Butler.
I was part of a committee that brought the award-winning and highly acclaimed author of Kindred to come to my alma mater the University of Maryland when I was in college. As a journalism major, I was quite excited to meet her in person and hear this great pioneer and revolutionary’s words in person.
So when I saw this flier and quote the website shared among its followers, I became inspired to research some of the other great words that came from Butler, including much from a 2002 talk she gave at UCLA.
And as a person who recently returned to daily writing after a full career as a lawyer, I am happy to share some of Butler’s other inspirational words to other writers out there. Enjoy!
