Yesterday, the music industry and the world lost a music icon and legend, Prince.
I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and like many people did on Thursday, after letting the news sink in, crying a bit, wallowing in denial, I started to search the Internet for anything I could find about him that I never bothered searching for before.
My fave finds were first person narratives (a few I’ve seen before) of his celebrity fans describing awesome moments they spent in his presence.
I knew Prince had an archive of unreleased music, but I didn’t know he had unreleased music videos for them too?
While doing a lecture filmmaker and director Kevin Smith told a tale about a documentary he did for Prince, he shared that the Purple one has over 50 songs and 50 music videos in a vault.
On an interview with Lopez Tonight in 2011, he joked that Prince has a vault of 1,000 songs and Prince didnt deny it.
When you sell 100 million albums, are a multi-platinum selling Grammy and Academy Award-winning artist, of course you have money to spend nurturing your talent and penchant for writing and producing and making great music and stock piling them for later.
I loved Kevin Smith’s narrative about Prince a lot. It’s about close to a half hour long. Check it out here:
And comedian Charlie Murphy (Eddie Murphy‘s brother) told his own tale on a funny episode of The Chappelle Show about getting being beat in a pick up game of basketball by Prince at his home “Paisley Park.”
I’m not sure if he was making it up, but as he says in the end, you can’t make that stuff up.
Another humorous tale (that was turned into an animation) was musician and famous drummer Questlove‘s about getting fired by Prince once. It’s a hoot!
Checking out the internet today, I discovered a few other gems of narratives people told about Prince.
These are fakebut they are hilarious humorous fictional stories about Prince that are Hilarious! Check them out HERE!
Vulture did a piece with 24 fun, little known, odd and interesting facts about Prince. These three are my fave.
He had a Private Hair Salon
In an interview with the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia says that their Spanish hacienda came equipped with its own hair salon — which she was never allowed to use. “I always went out if I needed my hair done,” Garcia explained. “The salon wasn’t for me, it was for my husband. Prince needed his space.”
He Hasn’t Cried Since He Was a Child
When he was a boy, Prince’s jazz-musician father threw him out of the house. (How Purple Rain–y!) The young Princeling then cried in a phone booth for two hours. According to a 1991 Details profile (now hosted on GQ.com), he claimed it was the last time he ever shed tears.
He Took Out a Nationwide Personal Ad
In December 1993, ads in several national magazines showed an obscured photo of Prince accompanied by the text, “Eligible bachelor seeks the most beautiful girl in the world to spend the holidays with.”
